( RSV )
Rom 5:1-21
[1] Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with
God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
[2] Through him we have obtained access to this grace in which we
stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of
God.
[3] More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that
suffering produces endurance,
[4] and endurance produces character, and character produces
hope,
[5] and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been
poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given
to us.
[6] While we were still weak, at the right time christ died for the
ungodly.
[7] Why, one will hardly die for a righteous man -- though perhaps
for a good man one will dare even to die.
[8] But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners
christ died for us.
[9] Since, therefore, we are now justified by his blood, much more
shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
[10] For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the
death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we
be saved by his life.
[11] Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus
Christ, through whom we have now received our reconciliation.
[12] Therefore as sin came into the world through one man and death
through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned
--
[13] sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin
is not counted where there is no law.
[14] Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose
sins were not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the
one who was to come.
[15] But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died
through one man's trespass, much more have the Grace of God and the
free gift in the Grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for
many.
[16] And the free gift is not like the effect of that one man's
sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation,
but the free gift following many trespasses brings
justification.
[17] If, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that
one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace
and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one
man Jesus Christ.
[18] Then as one man's trespass led to condemnation for all men, so
one man's act of righteousness leads to acquittal and life for all
men.
[19] For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by
one man's obedience many will be made righteous.
[20] Law came in, to increase the trespass; but where sin
increased, grace abounded all the more,
[21] so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign
through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our
Lord.

John 17:1-26
1 When Jesus had said this, he raised his eyes to heaven and said,
"Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your
son may glorify you,
2 just as you gave him authority over all people, so that he may
give eternal life to all you gave him.
3 Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only
true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
4 I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave
me to do.
5 Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with
you before the world began.
6 "I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world.
They belonged to you, and you gave them to me, and they have kept
your word.
7 Now they know that everything you gave me is from you,
8 because the words you gave to me I have given to them, and they
accepted them and truly understood that I came from you, and they
have believed that you sent me.
9 I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for the ones you
have given me, because they are yours,
10 and everything of mine is yours and everything of yours is mine,
and I have been glorified in them.
11 And now I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the
world, while I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your
name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we
are.
12 When I was with them I protected them in your name that you gave
me, and I guarded them, and none of them was lost except the son of
destruction, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13 But now I am coming t o you. I speak this in the world so that
they may share my joy completely.
14 I gave them your word, and the world hated them, because they do
not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world.
15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you
keep them from the evil one.
16 They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the
world.
17 Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth.
18 As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the
world.
19 And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be
consecrated in truth.
20 "I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe
in me through their word,
21 so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in
you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that
you sent me.
22 And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be
one, as we are one,
23 I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection
as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you
loved them even as you loved me.
24 Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they
also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me,
because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
25 Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know
you, and they know that you sent me."
26 I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that
the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.

1 Peter 15-22
15 "...But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you
do;
16 for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
17 Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work
impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent
fear.
18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as
silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life
handed down to you from your fore-fathers,
19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or
defect.
20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed
in these last times for your sake.
21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and
glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so
that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another
deeply, from the heart..."
