Feigned Ignorance and Sloth.
Choosing Not to Know or Acknowledge the Truth.

Some Lessons for us today, from the Trial of Albert Speer

Another early Church problem that continues today is "Feigned Ignorance" and "Sloth." Sloth is a culpable lack of physical or spiritual effort; acedia or laziness. One of the capital sins (CCC 1866, 2094, 2733).

For example: At the Nurmberg, ( Nurmberg = English convention Nuremberg ) Germany war crimes trials ( 1945-1946 ), Albert Speer, one of Hitler's architects of death, claimed ignorance as part of his defense - that "we did not know." Albert Speer was Hitler's personal architect, and wartime Production Minister. He had used slave Jewish and Gypsy labour from concentration camps to help achieve production goals. Earlier, The Nuremberg Laws ( 1935 ), designed by Adolf Hitler, and approved by the Nazi Party convention ( September 15th, 1935 ), had already deprived Jews of German citizenship. Jews were "re-defined", and designated as "subjects of the state." The "Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honour," and other explicit laws completed the process of Jewish segregation, and deprived them of legal protection. Jews were effectively "re-defined" as being of inferior blood. They were forbiden to have sexual relations, or to enter into Marriage with "citizens of German or cognative blood." It was not enough just to be human to have the right to life. Under the Nuremberg Laws of Hitler's Third Reich, lacking certain other qualities, as defined, could deprive a person of the right to life.

Truth and reality exist apart from us,
whether we acknowledge it or not.

Charged with crimes against humanity, Albert Speer challenged the authority of the court to try him when he spoke to this effect: "he did not break any of the laws of Germany, and the Nuremberg prosecutors could not try him under British or American law. So under what authority - by what law - was he being prosecuted?" The Nuremberg prosecutors answered that he, Albert Speer, and 23 other Nazi party supporters were being prosecuted by an international military tribunal, and under the authority of the London Agreement, of August 8th, 1945, and further that such acts as were commited, were regarded as criminal prior to the begining of World War ll. Albert Speer, and 23 others, were also being tried under the "Natural Law." [ Natural Law: See Romans 2:13-16; Jeremiah 31:33 ]

Truth is a person - Jesus Christ - The way - The Truth - The Life -

Truth is immutable - does not change.

Truth is a matter of Life and death forever - so choose life!

If Albert Speer and 23 other Nazi party supporters would not acknowledge Truth and reality on their own, then the international military tribunal would assist them with that.

Likewise, if we "feign ignorance" and do not acknowledge Truth and reality during this lifetime (with the help of grace), then God will assist us with that at the time of our death.

God, is a God of both justice and mercy. He will respect our human freedom, and the choices we made, and place us in the correct and eternal location or condition.
